HiTechnic SuperPro Experimenter's Kit for LEGO Mindstorms NXT
Introduction
The HiTechnic Experimenter's Kit contains everything you need to create your own sensors and electronic circuits that can be controlled with NXT programs. The HiTechnic Experimenter's Kit Handbook guides you with step by step instructions to complete the example circuit so they are easy to complete even if you have no experience with electronics and electronic components. The Experimenter's Kit contains everything you need to build the example electronics circuits plus the components can be used to build many other designs so you can experiment with both the electronics and the NXT programs that interact with the circuits.
Please use the SuperPro Comparison Chart to see what is included in each of the three SuperPro products.
The Experimenter's Kit contains the following;
- Experimenter's Kit A Component set
- New HiTechnic SuperPro Prototype Board
- Solderless breadboard 165mm x 55mm (6.5” x 2.1”)
- Jumper wire set containing 70 jumper wires (pre-bent with stripped ends)
- HiTechnic SuperPro Experimenter's Handbook (pdf download)
- Sample programs for each experiment written in:
- NXT-G
- LabVIEW 2009/LabVIEW for LEGO Mindstorms
- NXC
- RobotC

Experiments
The Experimenter's kit Handbook details example experiments that introduce basic electronic circuits and then progresses to more complicated designs. Accompanying example NXT programs demonstrate programming techniques to manipulate the hardware and read input from the sensors that can be built. All components necessary to complete each experiment and to create many circuits of your own designs are included in the Component Set.
Detailed Experiments include switch and LED control, ultrasonic LED meter, light sensors, reaction timers, magnetic switch sensor, temperature sensor and analog to speaker.
Each chapter of the handbook shows how to identify the components, construct the circuit and run the example program.
Here is an example from the HiTechnic SuperPro Experimenter's Handbook.
Experiment 5 - Ambient Canceling Light Sensor Additional Parts
Insert the 220 Ohm resistor to connect to 4V and the lower breadboard section as shown.
Circuit Diagram
ProgrammingLoad the program Exp5 AC Light.rbt. Ensure the SuperPro board is connected to sensor port 1 of your NXT. The program turns the LED on and off and measures the light level for both conditions. It then subtracts the reading obtained with the LED off from the reading obtained with the LED on and displays that value. If there is nothing placed above the LED – photocell sensor head , these readings will be very similar. However, if a white object or surface is placed a few centimeters above the sensor head, the two readings will start to differ because the white surface reflects the light from the LED when it is on. This provides a good way to detect the presence or absence of an object. You can experiment to see how different colored and different sized objects affect the results. |
