Lead Screws

Wednesday, October 1st, 2014

Matrix Robotics recently released Lead Screws as the newest element to their building system. You can purchase them on our website now here.

Lead screws can add linear movement to your robot. A kit comes with one 128mm lead screw, one 256mm lead screw (measured from thread start to thread end), two 152mm axles, two 280mm axels, two axel couplers, and two lead screw nuts. The lead screws and axles have a 4mm diameter and are made from stainless steel. Gus Jansson created an XY table to show one use of the lead screw. Other uses include lifting an arm, elevating a platform, raising a scissor lift, and more. The lead screw has a 4mm pitch. In other words, the lead screw nut will move 4mm for every rotation of the lead screw. Lead screws are fast and precise.

Bomb Squad Special Unit

Tuesday, September 9th, 2014

FTC team 7572, Bomb Squad Special Unit, had an outstanding season last year. Here is what they have to say:

“We’re from Mountain Home, Arkansas and finished undefeated in the qualification rounds at the Arkansas State Championship and ended as captains of the finalist alliance. 7572 also won the Design Award at this event. The key to our success was our constant implementation of a, light, quick, simple, and overall efficient robot made possible with the use of the convenient geometry of the Matrix Robotics Kits. Our robot was easily the fastest scorer there and was defeated by two 50 lb machines that kept us crammed in the corner for most of the finals matches. Efficiency in design is the key to our success. A very unique aspect of the team is that it is almost completely student run.”

The team is composed of 6th and 7th graders. John Taylor, a high school student, founded the team and now is the main mentor for the Special Unit. This is an inspiring team lead by an inspiring mentor. Keep up the good work!
